Three men have been arrested after a three-year-old boy was seriously injured in an acid attack this weekend.

The attack happened on Saturday at 2.15pm at Home Bargains, Shrub Retail Park in Worcester. West Mercia Police said they believed he had been “deliberately attacked”.

Three men, aged 22, 25 and 26, have now been arrested in London, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

Police had previously been looking for three men featured in CCTV footage.

A 39-year-old man from Wolverhampton was also arrested on Saturday, and remains in police custody.

The victim received serious burns to his arm and face. He has since been discharged from hospital, but a police statement said that “the long-term implications of his injuries are unknown at this time”.

Detective Inspector Tony Garner said: “We’d like to thank everyone who shared our appeal over the weekend and contacted us with information; all of this is helping us to build up a better picture of this incident. We’re continuing to urge anyone else with information to contact us.”

Police also stated that the motive for the attack was currently “unclear”.
