As we're all more than well aware by now, Theresa May opted not to attend the BBC Election Debate on Wednesday evening.

With Amber Rudd left to fly the Conservative flag during the live broadcast from Cambridge, May's absence was enough for the #WhereIsTheresa hashtag to find itself trending for much of the evening. It was of course predictable that the PM would come in for a bit of stick for not bothering to turn up, even though everyone was more than well aware that she wouldn't be in attendance long before the cameras started rolling. This said, nobody expected the official Twitter account of Netflix drama House of Cards to wade in... Featuring a gif of President Frank Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey), a tweet from the account was sent directly to May midway through the debate. 'They respect you more when you show strength,' it read. 'Or show up.' Ouch. https://twitter.com/HouseofCards/status/869991064098160640 As you might have guessed, the tweet swiftly clocked up the retweets. House of Cards, a Netflix favourite, recently returned for its fifth season.
