The United Kingdom weeps as it emerges Michael Gove will not be Prime Minister

The dream is over...

JOE

Michael Gove’s Prime Minister dreams are over.

Having coveted the job since as far back as last week, Gove was eliminated from the race to become Conservative leader, meaning the UK’s next PM will be one of Andrea Leadsom or Theresa May.

This also means that, for the first time since John Major replaced Margaret Thatcher back in 1990 – and just the second time in history – the UK’s Prime Minister will be a woman.

Ms Leadsom won the support of 84 Tory MPs with Ms May earning the backing of 199.

Tragically for Mr Gove, he only received the backing of a mere 46 – dumping him out of the race to be leader.

The news that his PM dreams had gone up in smoke were greeted with great sadness.

With Gove now out of the running, the 300,000 members of the Tory party will now be invited to choose their preferred candidate. Either Theresa May or Andrea Leadsom will be announced as David Cameron’s successor on September 9.
