In the message, Queen Elizabeth II recalls presenting the World Cup to Bobby Moore 55 years ago and seeing "what it meant to the players, management and support staff" to win the final.

Her Majesty also highlights the "spirit, commitment and pride" of Southgate and the entire England team.

The full letter reads: "Mr. Gareth Southgate, OBE (Manager),

"55 years ago I was fortunate to present the World Cup to Bobby Moore and saw what it meant to the players, management and support staff to reach and win the final of a major international football tournament.

"I send my good wishes for tomorrow with the hope that history will record not only your success but also the spirit, commitment and pride with which you have conducted yourselves."

Major figures from across the country have sent the team messages of good luck ahead of the biggest football match in England's history since 1966.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the team had "lifted the spirits of the whole country," whilst Labour leader Keir Starmer described the side as "role models."

Meanwhile, Prince William said that he "can't really believe this is happening," and urged Gareth Southgate's men to "bring it home."

The match kicks off at 8pm on Sunday at Wembley, as England take on Italy and try to etch their names into English sport folklore.
