Steven Gerrard is still living in 2006, according to his latest Instagram

The California sun has warped his judgement

At 36 years of age, some reports claim that Steven Gerrard is on the cusp of calling time on his playing career.

The former Liverpool captain, who has been playing for LA Galaxy since leaving his hometown club at the end of the 2014/15 Premier League season, is being tipped to return to Anfield to take up a coaching role when the time to hang his boots up rolls around.

Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Gerrard has had the pleasure of playing in the same sides as some of the finest left-backs on the planet…

And, clearly in a reflective mood, Gerrard has taken to his Instagram to share a picture of himself alongside the man he considers to be the world’s best left-back.

The man in question is his LA Galaxy teammate, Ashley Cole, who also played alongside Gerrard in the England team.

Undoubtedly worthy of such praise a decade ago, it seems a bit far-fetched to suggest that the former Arsenal and Chelsea man is still the best in his position in the modern game.

Clearly, the California sun has gone to Stevie G’s head. Either that or he hasn’t seen much of James Milner this season…
