More than 1,500 flights have been delayed or cancelled across the northeastern United States as a powerful storm hits during one of the year’s busiest travel weekends.
On Saturday, approximately 4 inches of snow fell in New York City.
Despite many roads being cleared by Saturday morning, the storm continues to disrupt holiday travel, with at least 1,500 flights cancelled or delayed since Friday night, according to flight-tracking service FlightAware.
Airports, including John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia, issued social media snow alerts, cautioning travellers to expect possible further flight disruption.
Both New York and New Jersey were put under states of emergency.
Eric Adams, New York City's Mayor, wrote on X: "That white stuff is coming, NYC! We're ready for however much we get."
He later posted images of salt spreaders and snowploughs out in force as crews treated city streets.
New York last experienced snowfall of this extent in 2022, when 8 inches fell in Central Park.
But the impact of the weather has extended beyond New York, with delays reported in San Francisco and Orlando, and hundreds of flights delayed at airports across Florida.
