Perhaps SBW has an aversion to gold medallions.

At this stage, just about every rugby lover in the world has seen Sonny Bill Williams’ brilliant gesture to pitch-invading teenager Charlie Line.

The All Blacks centre brought the over-enthusiastic 14-year-old back to his place in the Twickenham stands and handed him over his World Cup winners’ medal.

Williams was awarded a replacement winners medal at the World Rugby ceremony, on Sunday evening, but revealed he rejected a chance to get the original back.

Interviewed at the All Blacks homecoming parade, Williams said:

“It’s funny, his old lady brought Charlie to our hotel station just before we left and asked if I wanted the medal back.

“I said ‘No, let him keep it because he will cherish it for life and keep it.”

Williams is now turning his focus to Sevens Rugby and will be hoping to win another gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
