There could be some huge new features coming to Snapchat in the near future.
But it’s not from some big announcement out of Snapchat HQ – some crafty developers have been delving into the app’s code and found some very interesting things.
Hidden in the code are some references to some huge new potential features that could change the game, according to 9to5 Google.
It looks like Snapchat could be branching out into video and audio calls. But that’s not all – signs of a potential Periscope-like live streaming was found along with possible audio note capabilities.
The ‘chat_stream_audio’ and ‘chat_incoming_video’ code suggests a new full-screened video and audio calling feature which users could listen in or join in.
But this would put Snapchat in direct competition with the likes of Skype and Apple’s FaceTime.
The other discovery of a potential new Snap type ‘AUDIONOTE’ would just record soundbites but the possibilities for this are quite exciting.
The tiny pieces of code were found in the 9.21.1.0 Version released on December 24 – and this could be the late Christmas present we’ve all been waiting for.
