Skype is set to officially shut down 23 years after first seeing the day.
The internet video call application was founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennström, from Sweden, and Janus Friis, from Denmark.
The software was created by Estonians Ahti Heinla, Priit Kasesalu, Jaan Tallinn, and Toivo Annus.
It's first beta version was released in August 2003.
Used by millions around the world, the app was the sixth most downloaded app between 2010 and 2019.
The video calling platform was first bought by Ebay in 2005 and later by Microsoft in 2011.
The app struggled to keep up during Covid and was ultimately left behind by the likes of Zoom and even Microsoft's own brand Teams.
It had long been rumoured to shut down, and now the news is officially.
Skype will shut down at the start of May 2025.
