Shots have been fired outside a shopping centre in the German city of Munich.

Families were filmed fleeing the shopping complex after gunshots were heard on Friday afternoon.

A major police operation has been launched in response to reports of shootings at the Olympia Einkaufszentrum in the district of Moosach.

‘Spezial einsatz kommando’, or German special operations officers, have arrived on the scene.

German media reports that the centre was put on lockdown as shoppers fled the scene.

More than 100,000 people watched this Live Periscope broadcast from the scene which showed dozens of armed police surrounding the building.

The man videoing the scene gives a description of the unfolding events in German and says he believes there is a ‘shooter’ in the shopping centre.

Security services have been on high alert after five people were attacked on a train in Bavaria on Monday.

Authorities had warned of the danger that further attacks could be imminent.

We will bring you more news on the situation as it breaks.
