Urfan Sharif was sentenced to life behind bars last month.
The father of murdered 10-year-old Sara Sharif has reportedly been attacked in prison, weeks after being jailed for the killing of his daughter.
Urfan Sharif had his neck & face sliced open with a jagged tuna tin lid by two other prisoners at Belmarsh Prison on New Year’s Day, reports The Sun.
The 43-year-old suffered cuts to his face, and it is understood he received medical treatment inside the prison.
A source told The Sun’s Mike Hamilton: “Urfan was sliced up badly in his cell by two others who rushed in. It was planned and they used a makeshift weapon — made from the lid of a tin of tuna.
“He was sliced in the neck and face, and is still in healthcare and in a very bad way.
The source added: “He was lucky to survive, has had to have stitches and will have scars as a permanent reminder of the attack. The guards tried to keep him safe because he obviously had a target on his back after the case was such big news.
“Something like this was always on the cards, and an attack was probably only a matter of time.”
Belmarsh is a Category A jail in south-east London housing some of the UK’s most dangerous prisoners.
Sharif, 43, and Sara’s stepmother were sentenced to life imprisonment last month after being found guilty of the killing of Sara at their home in Woking, Surrey in August 2023.
Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment for causing or allowing her death.
The 10-year-old girl was hooded, burned and beaten during a “campaign of torture” that lasted two years.
Sara’s birth mother Olga Domin, 38, had lost a court battle to keep her daughter from Sharif, who had exploited EU rules to stay in the UK and hoodwinked social services.
Last month, an Old Bailey court heard how authorities missed at least 15 chances to get Sara into a safe home.
A post-mortem examination found Sara had suffered 25 fractures and 71 external injuries including bite marks and iron burns.
