Ryanair issue statement on video of racial abuse incident on one of their planes

Carl Kinsella

The matter has been reported to the police

A video, posted on social media on Saturday, appeared to a show a white British man hurling racial abuse at a black woman while sat next to her on a Ryanair flight.

Throughout the video, the man refers to both the woman’s skin colour and accent in derogatory terms. On the video, the man can be heard telling the woman: “I’ll tell you this, if you don’t go to another seat, I’ll push you to another seat”. In a sickening tirade, he also calls her a “a stupid ugly cow” and an “ugly black bastard”.

Other passengers attempted to intervene, and some called for the man to be thrown off the flight. However, it is eventually the woman who moves seats. The man can then be heard telling a flight attendant: “I’m alright now she’s gone”.

In a short statement posted on Twitter Sunday morning, Ryanair wrote: “We are aware of this video and have reported this matter to Essex Police”.

Ryanair’s statement does not contain any comment as to the conduct of their own employees throughout the matter, nor does it refer to the airline’s policy when incidents such as these occur on board its planes.

Huffington Post has reported that the incident occurred on a Ryanair flight from Barcelona to London Stansted.
