Rafael Nadal announces retirement from tennis aged 38

Goodbye to a legend

The Spanish tennis legend announced the news today on social media, posting a video to X captioned thank you to all.

In the video he explained he is retiring from the sport as his body can no longer keep up with the sport.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, Nadal won 22 grand slams, mostly across clay, making Roland Garros his fortress.

Born in Mallorca, the tennis player is a legend in his native Spain and around the world.

Upon his retirement he said: "The reality is that it has been some difficult years, these last two especially.

"I don't think I have been able to play without limitations."

"It is obviously a difficult decision, one that has taken me some time to make.

"But, in this life, everything has a beginning and an end."

Next month Davis Cup Finals will be his last tournament before retiring at the end of the season.
