Emotional public interpret empty seat as Prince Harry’s tribute to his mum

But the seat was left empty for a different reason.

It transpires that the seat was left empty for a different reason.

Princess Diana died in a car-crash in Paris more than 20 years ago when Harry was aged just 12.

However, on Saturday she was certainly not forgotten.

As 600 guests filled St George’s Chapel for ceremony, one prominent chair was purposely left empty, and many interpreted as a symbol of where she should be seated.

Located right up the very front right beside William, Charles, Camilla, and Kate – it didn’t take long for commentators to clock what they believed was a very touching gesture.

The seat was in fact left empty as standard royal procedure. The Queen, whenever she sits, must always have the seat in front of her left empty so that there is an unobstructed view.

There was, however, plenty of emotional moments and touches remembering Princess Diana.

All three of Diana’s siblings were present, with her sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, giving a powerful reading at the very beginning of the ceremony.

Otherwise, there were white roses included in the floral arrangements and Meghan’s own bouquet was constructed from forget-me-nots – Diana’s favourite flower.

And, of course, Kate wears Diana’s engagement ring.

Similarly, at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in Westminster Abbey seven years ago, a prominent chair was also left empty.
