Prince Harry only found out his father King Charles was in hospital when the news broke on Thursday evening, according to reports.
The monarch was temporarily admitted to hospital on Thursday morning after suffering side effects due to his cancer treatment, but has since been discharged.
The King has been undergoing weekly treatment for the disease since his diagnosis last February and returned full-time to work duties last April.
The 76-year-old was forced to pull out of engagements that day and cancelled an away day in Birmingham on Friday where he was due to meet local communities.
A palace aid described the hospital visit to The London Clinic in Marylebone a 'minor bump in the road'.
They further insisted that his treatment was still 'very much headed in the right direction'.
According to reports the Duke was not informed of Charles' hospital stay and only found out when he read it in the news.
It comes the same week as Prince Harry finds himself embroiled in a bitter row surrounding his African children's charity Sentable, which he has resigned from.
Harry founded the charity in honour of his late mother Princess Diana but he is said to be reeling from a boardroom battle that has rocked the charity.
The Duke last saw his father for a fleeting half an hour visit last February and relations between them remain tense.
He flew to England alone to see Charles when his cancer was first announced, but the monarch could only spare a few minutes for his youngest son.
Conflicting narratives around why the reunion between father and son was so short soon emerged from both camps.
According to reports, the Palace did not inform Harry of his father's hospital stay as they did not want to cause 'unnecessary alarm' by contacting the Prince who lives in California.
