President Obama takes a very different approach to Donald Trump when wishing America a happy 2017

It's safe to say that Donald Trump ruffled a few feathers in 2016.

Despite this, he's a matter of days away from being sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America. On the eve of 2017, he took to his Twitter account to wish everyone the very best for the year ahead. In keeping with the rest of his year, the President-elect's message was... well, a little strange. In keeping with many of the things he's done in 2016, the tweet sparked quite a reaction. Plenty of those that had been against the idea of him becoming he next Leader of the Free World took issue with the 'classless' tone of the tweet. https://twitter.com/MrMokelly/status/815275671324790789 Many of them compared it with the new year message later posted by Barack Obama, the man that Trump will replace in a matter of days. Reflecting on 2016, Obama also used his final new year address as the POTUS to look back on his eight-year stint in the White House. Touching on several key events to have taken place in that time - including the assassination of Osama bin Laden, the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan and progressive reform in marriage equality - Obama finished by promising the American people that he would continue to support them.

"I will be there with you every step of the way to ensure that this country forever strives to live up to the incredible promise of our founding: that all of us are created equal, and all of us deserve every chance to live out our dreams."
