Police have issued an update after a man was shot dead at Milton Keynes Central railway station.
Police attended the scene at 12:55 BST on Tuesday after reports of a man carrying a firearm.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said "life-saving actions" had to be taken, and emergency services attempted to save the man on site but he was pronounced dead at 1.44pm.
Later on, Thames Valley Police said he had actually been carrying a knife, and said that the man "moved at speed towards officers" before a shot was fired by police.
"TVP armed officers responded and challenged a white man who was carrying a knife outside the station," police said in a statement yesterday.
Milton Keynes commander, Ch Supt Emma Baillie, said: "We understand that this incident may cause concern locally, but we would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public."
Police and crime commissioner for Thames Valley Matthew Barber praised police for their actions.
"It is tragic that a man died in yesterday's incident, but I am thankful to the police officers who responded bravely and acted decisively in order to protect the public.
"If they had not done so the outcome could have been much worse."
