Police in the Netherlands have discovered a garden gnome made out of MDMA.
During a drugs raid, Dongemond Police searched a location suspected of harbouring a substantial amount of drugs.
Their suspicions were correct but among the drugs was an unusual object – a garden gnome which police described as being visibly startled, posing with its hands covering its mouth.
Upon further investigation, police discovered the gnome, which weighed four pounds, was made entirely out of compressed MDMA.
The police tested the unusual object for narcotics which is when their suspicions were confirmed.
MDMA use in Europe is on the rise at present.
According to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), the production and availability of MDMA has surged in recent years, with record-breaking purity levels and declining prices fuelling its popularity.
The Netherlands, in particular, remains a hotspot for the production of the drug, with authorities regularly dismantling clandestine labs across the country.
The MDMA gnome isn’t the only bizarre find to surface in a drugs bust.
Police have uncovered all manner of strange items linked to the drug trade over the years.
Cocaine concealed in avocados was once found at a Spanish airport while heroin has been discovered stashed inside hollowed-out pineapples.
During a raid in Australia, authorities found methamphetamine hidden in shipments of sex dolls.
These unusual smuggling methods highlight the lengths and creativity to which traffickers will go to avoid detection.
