As America continues to debate whether it is more important to protect people’s lives or obey an old piece of paper to the letter, millions of people have taken to the streets to show solidarity with the victims of gun violence and support for the campaign for more gun control.

Beatles legend Paul McCartney was on the march wearing a t-shirt with the words ‘we can end gun violence’ printed on it. Speaking to CNN he explained that having lost a good friend of his to gun violence, it was a very important issue to him.

Numerous marches took place across the United States today, all led by the survivors of February’s school shooting in Florida.

Half a million people are estimated to be marching in Washington DC.

On Saturday afternoon, the White House released a statement praising the “many courageous young Americans exercising their First Amendment rights today”.

President Donald Trump is spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The momentum that this movement has gained since the survivors of the Parkland shooting decided to take a stand has been nothing short of magnificent.

However, it remains to be seen whether anything will change on a legislative level.
