One of Ireland’s biggest tourist attractions is temporarily closing, but getting a major refurb

If you're taking a trip to Ireland later this year, or early next year, it's worth bearing this in mind.

The Old Jameson Distillery in Dublin, which attracts thousands of tourists every year from the UK, is to undergo a refurbishment. Irish Distillers, Ireland’s leading supplier of spirits and wines and producer of the world’s most well-known and successful Irish whiskeys, has this week announced plans for a major redevelopment of the Old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield, representing a total investment of nearly £11million. This new look Jameson brand home will strengthen Ireland’s growing whiskey tourism industry which currently attracts 350,000 tourists a year. To facilitate the refurbishment, the Old Jameson Distillery will close on September 1st and will officially reopen in March 2017. So it won't be closed for that long and for a cost of 1/10th of a Paul Pogba, we reckon this is a very good thing indeed! Construction work will begin in September and will be led by BRC Imagination Arts; Dublin based Architect firm The O’Toole Partnership and Flynn Management & Contractors with approximately 100 people employed as part of the redevelopment work.
