Nottingham Forest have donated £10,000 to a Huntingdon train hero who was injured after confronting the attacker on the LNER train travelling from Doncaster to London.
Stephen Crean suffered injuries to his back, head and left hand and was one of 11 people to be injured in the attack.
In response to his heroic actions, a JustGiving page was set up in honour of the 61-year-old.
The page has since raised £50,000 with a sizeable donation coming from the club he supports, Nottingham Forest.
Speaking to Metro, Crean expressed his shock of such a kind gesture.
"I don’t expect anything in life but this is such a kind gesture, I can’t quite believe it," he told the outlet.
"I’m not very mobile at the moment and because I am left-handed, I can’t open up any messages or look at the charity page myself but friends have shown me it and I’m in shock at the fact people have kindly donated so much.
Crean described the football club as "family".
"The club and its fans look after one another. I’ve very rarely missed a game and because we are all like one big family, we always stick together."
