Newsround’s advice for children following the Manchester Arena attack is being widely shared on social media

It has now been confirmed that children were amongst the fatalities of the attack on Manchester Arena on Monday night.

Twenty-two people lost their lives when a suicide bomber detonated a homemade device in a foyer of the concert venue, minutes after a show by US singer Ariana Grande had finished. A further 59 people have been hospitalised. Understandably, such awful events will be hard for many children and young people to fully understand - especially when some of those who have lost their lives are of a similar age. It is also inevitable that many children will be worried by such terrible news. In response to this, children's news programme Newsround have posted guidance on their website to help young people that have been upset by these events. One particular section of this article - entitled 'Remember it's rare' - has been praised and widely shared by users of social media in the hours since the attack.
