A Netflix show has been hailed by fans as the ‘best series they’ve ever seen’ as they say they can’t stop watching it.
American crime drama, Queen of the South was developed by M.A. Fortin and Joshua Miller and ran for five series between 2016 to 2021.
The show was based on the Spanish-language telenova, La Reina del Sur, which is also based on a novel by Arturo Perez-Reverte.
Brazilian actress Alice Braga, who is known for her roles in Dark Matter and I Am Legend plays the lead in the series.
Viewers were hooked from the very first episode, with one fan saying: “The best show in the last years: action, realism, drama, trust and betrayal, love and slow burn…it has everything one needs to stay glued. The performance of the main cast is superb!”
Another said: “My friend suggested this show and I believe it’s worth it. After I started to watch it, getting more and more curious to know what’s next. It’s addictive.”
The show, which also stars Peter Gadiot and Mexican actress Veronica Falcon, received a score of 8/10 on IMDb and 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
More fans flocked to social media to praise the series as many are taking to the streaming platform to rewatch the series again.
Another said: “Love the show – have been watching since Season 1 and have never been disappointed – amazing actor.”
A second said: “It’s my favorite TV show. Devious, diabolical, and intelligent characters. Unpredictable. Enough twists, turns, and subplots to keep you glued.”
The novel ‘La Reina del Sur,’ which inspired the series, takes inspiration from a real-life female drug lord, Marllory Chacón, whose nickname given by the Guatemalan press lent its title to the hit show.
The synopsis of the USA Network original reads: “Teresa flees Mexico after her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered. Settling in Dallas she looks to become the country’s reigning drug smuggler and to avenge her lover’s murder.”
