A mother allegedly hacked her five-year-old son to death with a machete before boiling and eating part of his head in Egypt.
Hanaa, 29, was arrested by police after the uncle of her child, Youssef, found the boy's body parts in buckets in their family home in the village of Abu Shalabi.
Local media report that the 29-year-old confessed to eating part of her son's head as she "wanted him to stay with her together." Hanaa also told police that she 'suffers from a mental illness' and had no intention to kill her child.
She reportedly killed her son by striking four blows to the head with a machete before butchering his body in the bathroom.
After that, she then allegedly cooked his head, and other parts of the body, in boiling water on a stove before eating them.
The two had been living together after Hanaa had separated from Youssef's father, who claims that she knew what she was doing.
He told local media: "When I arrived, the police prevented me from seeing my son because of the horrific scene.
"We separated from each other four years ago because she had land from her father and asked me to leave the house and my family and go with her to live on the land.
"But I refused, and the relationship ended entirely by her will, and I tried to reconcile with her after the divorce, but she refused and stuck to her opinion.
"My son was the one who kept me connected to her, and I used to see him regularly and bring him clothes and things he needed."
His lawyer, Samir Mohamed Saleh, said that the suspect was emotionless before telling those questioning her that she "wanted to free him and myself."
"I wanted to take revenge against his father and be free. His father keeps coming and trying to take him away all the time."
