Mason Greenwood tells pals he’s ‘finished’ at Man Utd and will never play for them again

It has almost been three months since charges against Greenwood were dropped

Mason Greenwood has reportedly told people around him that he does not think he will play for Manchester United again.

United are believed to be split over Greenwood’s possible return after the CPS withdrew all criminal charges against him on 2 February – including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

After the charges were dropped, Greenwood expressed his relief, saying: “I am relieved this matter is now over. I would like to thank my family, loved ones and friends for their support.”

And while it is thought, the 21-year-old was hopeful that would clear the way for his return to the club, the forward no longer thinks that’s likely.

The CPS’ decision immediately put Greenwood’s future in United’s hands, but they are taking their time with it.

The club acknowledged charges had been dropped against Greenwood, but did not indicate if he would be welcomed back. Greenwood is contracted with the Red Devils until 2025.

“Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped,” United’s statement said.

“The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”

Greenwood is still suspended and he will not be returning to their Carrington training ground or featuring in fixtures until the club has concluded its investigation.

The Sun on Saturday suggested Greenwood has now confessed to friends that he no longer believes he will play for the club again and that he is resigned to the possibility of moving abroad to continue playing.

United has not said how long its investigation may take or indicated what the possible outcomes might be.

United manager Erik ten Hag is reported to have spoken to Greenwood for the first time after the footballer was cleared. At that time, Greenwood was said to have beeb told that any decision over his future would be taken by the club and not the management team.
