Rivera had appeared in the third instalment of the Tom Holland series of Spider-Man films as the grandmother of Spider-Man's best friends Ned Leeds.
According to her family, she died on 15 April in Honolulu, Hawaii, only making the news public to TMZ on Monday.
It is believed that Rivera suffered a stroke that left her in an "extremely serious" condition before she fell into a coma.
Speaking to TMZ on Monday, her family said that even if Rivera had regained consciousness, her chances of recovery were very slim.
Her family made the decision to take her off of life support after hearing the reports from doctors.
Despite her short amount of screentime, Rivera is remembered fondly for telling Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker to clean up his cobwebs.
The news comes in the week following the release of the latest instalment in the Tom Holland series of Spider-Man films, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
