Man fighting for his life after Glasgow ‘stabbing’

Police are treating the incident as attempted murder

A 47-year-old man is continuing to fight for his life after allegedly being stabbed in the neck during a mass brawl in Glasgow on Sunday afternoon.

The Evening Times reports ‘a number of people’ were involved in the incident which took place on Blackfriars Street, and that two other men, aged 29 and 30, were also taken to the nearby Royal Infirmary Hospital with serious injuries.

The brawl, which another report says involved as many as 20 to 25 men, took place hours after the Old Firm derby between Celtic and Rangers. Though eyewitnesses said none of the men involved were wearing football colours, police have since indicated that they are looking into whether the incident was football-related.

Police also confirmed they are treating the attack on the 47-year-old man as attempted murder.

“We are currently going through CCTV and speaking to those who were in the area at the time to try to establish exactly what happened here,” said DI Peter Crombie of the Major Investigations Team on Monday.

“We are treating the attack on the 47 year-old man as attempted murder, and the attacks on the 29 and 30 year-old men as serious assaults.

“There may have been more people injured in this incident who did not seek medical treatment last night and we would appeal for them to come forward and speak to us.

“Anyone with any information about the incident, or any footage of before, during or after the incident is urged to get in contact with Police.”
