Kyiv missile strike kills two as Russia pounds Ukrainian capital

The barrage began after midnight on Wednesday, with air raid alerts sounding for more than an hour as waves of ballistic missiles hit the city and its outskirts.

A woman was killed in Kyiv and regional authorities said another person died in Bucha, west of the city. At least 24 people were injured in areas around the capital, four of them in a serious condition.

Kyiv authorities warn of further danger

Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said damage was being recorded in the Bucha, Brovary and Fastiv districts, part of a wider picture of heightened Russian military activity in recent weeks.

"The enemy is once again deliberately striking civilians and civilian infrastructure."

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned that people could be trapped under rubble after strikes on the city centre, and urged residents not to ignore air raid sirens.

There has been no comment from Russia, the BBC reported. The attack follows an intensifying exchange of long-range strikes, with Ukraine also targeting Russian infrastructure in recent days.
