A major reason why Manchester United can't draw Liverpool in the Carabao Cup draw tonight has been revealed.
Tonight, the draw will take place with the Premier League teams in Europe entering the fray.
However, the huge North West rivalry between the Red Devils and Liverpool is one tie that certainly won't be pulled out of the hat.
Ahead of the draw, it was revealed that teams in the Champions League will not be able to play against those in the Europa League due to a change in rules.
The third round of the Carabao Cup will be held across two midweeks as a result of the extended European group stages changing the calendar.
This means that no Champions League teams (Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa) can face Europa League sides (United and Tottenham Hotspur).
During Erik ten Hag's first season in charge, Man Utd got their hands on the Carabao Cup trophy by beating Newcastle United 2-0 in the final.
Last season, it was Liverpool that won the trophy courtesy of a bullet header from Virgil van Dijk in the 118th minute.
