Local BBC legend Peter Grant has died after a short battle with cancer.

While he also transitioned into TV, hosting Made In Tyne and Wear and providing travel and weather updates on BBC Look North breakfast.

He also held many charity and business award ceremonies down the years.

Following his death, tributes flooded in for the popular broadcaster.

Alfie Joey, a former BBC Radio Newcastle broadcaster, described Peter as "relentlessly positive".

"Even when he was given his cancer diagnosis last year he said he wasn't going to dwell on the negatives," he said on Facebook.

He added: "Thoughts and love to his wife Sarah-Jane & family. And fond memories of some happy times together, on and off air. RIP Peter."

Another colleague, ex-Look North news reader Colin Briggs described Peter as a "proper pro at everything he did".

While Simon Logan, a BBC Radio Newcastle and BBC Radio Tees broadcaster, noted the former broadcaster as a "radio legend".

He described Peter as a "great friend" and wrote: "R.I.P Peter, you fought a brave battle and will always be remembered especially for being kind, generous and so positive all the time."

Graeme Pickering, a fellow former broadcaster, who worked with Peter on the Magic 1170 breakfast show, said: "Just as friendly and upbeat with folks off-air as he was on-air."

And BBC Radio Tees producer Anthony Day recounted the pair's first meeting.

He wrote: "I did my first ever radio car live with Peter on Boxing Day 2013 at the Seaburn dip @bbcnewcastle.

"I was very nervous but he put me at ease with his humour, fun and kindness. RIP."
