Just a few examples of pure, amazing human kindness taking place in Manchester

This is Manchester

When its citizens needed it most, Manchester stood up and was counted as waves of generosity poured from those who wanted to help anybody affected by the tragic Manchester Arena attacks which claimed the lives of 22 people and injured 59 more.

A performance from pop singer Ariana Grande ended with a loud blast from the foyer of the arena and Manchester suddenly came to a standstill.

Greater Manchester Police initially suggested that it was the work of a lone attacker, who died at the scene, but a 23-year-old man has since been arrested in relation to the incident.

“They’ll never beat us,” Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, defiantly said of those responsible for the attack.

And in the hours since tragedy struck so many families, Manchester showed just what it’s made of with countless acts of incredible kindness on its streets.

AJ Singh, a Manchester taxi driver, was one of many who offered free rides to concert-goers in need of a lift home.

Residents opened their doors to anybody who required shelter, with the hashtag #RoomsForManchester doing the rounds.

While hotels too were more than happy to welcome in those who needed a roof over their heads.

Even though the NHS insisted that Manchester hospitals were stocked well enough with blood to treat the victims of the attack, that didn’t stop citizens lining up to offer what they could just in case it was required.

Plenty of appreciation was shown to the brave, hard-working emergency services staff who have worked tirelessly to help the people of Manchester.

Even the slightest little gestures made all the difference.

This is caring.

This is compassion.

This is Manchester.
