Depp could soon be returning to the courtroom

Despite only a few weeks having passed since a jury ruled largely in favour of Johnny Depp in his defamation trial against his former wife Amber Heard, the star could soon find himself back inside a courtroom.

According to outlets such as the New York Post, the Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas actor is set to go on trial once more, this time in a civil lawsuit against a co-worker who claims he assaulted him whilst on the set of the 2018 crime thriller City of Lies.

The trial, scheduled to start on July 25 in Los Angeles Superior Court, has been brought by Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, a location manager on the movie where the incident allegedly took place. Brooks has accused Depp of punching him twice in the rib cage on April 13, 2017 after he reportedly told the star that a scene he was shooting with his friends wasn’t working.

In response, Brooks claims that Depp screamed “I’ll give you $100,000 to punch me right now!” – and before he could leave to find a police officer to help diffuse the situation, Brooks claims that Depp hit him.

According to the New York Post, representatives for Depp, 57, did not confirm whether the star would be testifying at the trial, however it is believed that the two attorneys that represented him during his recent trial with Heard, 36 – Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez – are also set to defend him again in this upcoming suit.

Depp previously launched a high profile defamation case against his former spouse following an opinion piece she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 on the subject of domestic abuse. Following a long and televised trial, a jury found largely in favour of Depp on Wednesday June 1, awarding him $10.35m in damages.

Heard was also awarded $2m in damages after successfully proving one of her counterclaims.

However according to a recent interview with The Sun, Brooks lawyer, Pat Harris, isn’t concerned about the output of the previous case impacting this upcoming suit.

“While we respect the jury’s decision, it has no relevance to Mr. Brooks’ case in Los Angeles,” Harris explained to the paper.

“Brooks’ case is not about two Hollywood celebrities involved in a toxic relationship. It is about the assault of a hard-working film crew member by the star of the production.

“Mr. Brooks looks forward to his day in court.”
