Jeremy Hunt gets called Jeremy C**t live on TV, again

James Dawson

It never stops being funny

Victoria Derbyshire has become the latest BBC presenter to mistakenly refer to foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt as “Jeremy Cunt” on live TV.

The mishap (/ Freudian slip) came on the presenter’s eponymous Victoria Derbyshire Show as she was addressing Conservative MP Steve Brine.

During the debate over who should replace Theresa May as Tory leader, Derbyshire said: “You say the man you are backing, Jeremy Cunt…”

Before quickly realising her mistake and adding: “I’m so sorry, Jeremy Hunt. I’ve never said that before in my life.

“It’s normally men who say that so I really, really want to apologise.”

The BBC’s James Naughtie and Justin Webb have previously made the same mistake on air.

Derbyshire later clarified on Twitter that she had meant it had usually been male journalists who make the mistake, as opposed that “men generally go around saying the word”.

Hunt is clearly aware of the issue around his name. When asked whether he would just be a “continuity Theresa May” if he went on to be prime minister during the launch of his leadership campaign on Monday, he made a joke around the issue.

“Anyone who knows what my last name rhymes with will know I’ve been called a whole lot worse on the Today programme on the BBC,” he said. “I will be quite different to any of the prime ministers I have served.”
