251 people tragically lost their lives yesterday

On Thursday (June 12), one of the travel firm's Boeing 787 Dreamliners crashed into an Ahmedabad residential area shortly after heading skyward.

Almost every person on board tragically lost their lives as a fireball engulfed the jet - British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was the sole survivor.

24 hours on, a Reuters source now claims Air India and the Indian government are looking into potential issues with the plane's engine thrust, its flaps, and why landing gear remained open.

The government's probe will take a close look at any maintenance problems.

Also, the flight's black box is now being trawled through by police, which should indicate how the pilots were communicating with each other in the cockpit in the lead-up to the accident.

A student named Bhoomi Chauhan was saved from this terrible fate by busy roads on her way to the airport.

Scheduled to fly back to London where she'd rejoin her husband, Bhoomi arrived at the final check-in desk 10 minutes late.

She told local media: "The flight was scheduled to take off at 1.10pm. The boarding procedure was over at 12.10pm and I reached at 12.20pm.

"I had reached the checking-in gate and requested them to allow me to board the flight. I told them I shall clear all the formalities quickly but they did not allow me to proceed."

Bhoomi was just about to leave the airport when she heard about the crash.

"I began shivering. My legs started trembling," she said. "I felt numb for quite some time."

As well as the 251 passengers, an additional eight local people died from the plane's ground impact (via BBC).
