House of Cards creator issues statement following Kevin Spacey allegation

Spacey has been accused of making a sexual advance toward a child actor

Beau Willimon, creator of House of Cards, has issued a statement on social media following the allegation made against Kevin Spacey.

Spacey, who plays President Frank Underwood in the Netflix show, issued an apology on Monday after being accused of making a sexual advance toward a child actor.

Anthony Rapp, who is now 46 but was 14 years of age at the time, said Spacey invited him to a party and seemed drunk when the alleged incident happened in New York in 1986.

Rapp alleges that Spacey, then 26, invited him and a 17-year-old friend to a nightclub, and then to a party at the actor’s apartment. As Rapp recounts in an interview with BuzzFeed:

“He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don’t, like, squirm away initially, because I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then he lays down on top of me.”

“As I opened the door to leave, he was leaning on the front door[frame]. And he was like, ‘Are you sure you wanna go?’ I said, ‘Yes, good night,’ and then I did leave.”

Describing Rapp’s story as ‘deeply troubling’ in a statement posted on his Twitter account, Willimon wrote:  ‘During the time I worked with Kevin Spacey on House of Cards, I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behaviour on set or off.

‘That said, I take reports of such behaviour seriously and this is no exception. I feel for Mr. Rapp and I support his courage.’

Spacey explained in his statement that he had no memory of such incident, but added that if true, he owed Rapp ‘the sincerest apology’.
