He wants to return to the wizarding world
Gary Oldman who played Sirius Black in the original Harry Potter series has expressed an interest in returning to the world of magic in HBO’s Harry Potter TV series.
The new adaptation has launched an open casting call for its main child stars which has got fans wondering who will be cast to play the adult characters.
The Warner Bros. film series boasted an all-star cast of British talent from Richard Harris to Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane and Alan Rickman.
While on the red carpet at the 76th Primetime Emmys, Oldman told IndieWire that he’d be open to returning to play Sirius Black in the reboot but added that he would be keen for a new challenge in the wizarding world.
He said: “I love Sirius. He wasn’t in it enough. He turned up and then he went through the veil.
“I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people. Maybe in a few years, I could do Dumbledore.”
Oldman clarified that he had not been approached about the series and said he did not expect to get a call.
Dumbledore was portrayed by Richard Harris in the first two Harry Potter films. After his death, Michael Gambon portrayed the beloved headmaster in the remaining six films while Jude Law played him in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spin-offs.
The 66-year-old actor was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category for his role on the Apple TV+ British espionage series ‘Slow Horses’.
It was Oldman’s first nomination for his portrayal of Jackson Lamb in the three seasons he has been playing him.
He said: “It started off very much a show that was culturally very British. And it is, its humour. So I feel like it’s sort of ‘the little show that could’ that it’s now reached a much wider audience.
“So, to be recognized tonight with nine nominations, it’s a great thing.”
