At least four people have been killed in a shooting at a child's birthday party in northern California.
Ten others have been injured in the shooting, which occurred at a restaurant in Stockton.
Local police say that the victims include both adults and children, and that they believe the shooting may have been 'targeted'.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office say the shooting occurred at 18:00 local time, and they are appealing to anyone with "information, video footage, or who may have witnessed any part of the incident" to come forward.
Heather Brent, a spokeswoman, described the shooting as 'unfathomable'.
"This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains limited," she said.
"Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities."
California has some of the strictest laws on firearms in the US.
However, in recent years, the laws have come against challenges from a federal level.
A federal judge overturned the state's ban on assault weapons in 2021, and a year later the US Supreme Court's expansion of gun rights jeopardised other legislation.
