Protesters are reportedly shouting England Til I Die
Fighting has broken out at the Cenotaph as right-wing protesters attempt to reach the monument in London.
A large crowd of people carrying St George’s flags were seen walking along the embankment chanting “England til I Die”, reports Sky News.
While police attempted to stop them from reaching Whitehall the group pushed through the blockade with some shouting “let’s have them” as officers began to hit them with batons.
Sky News reports that bottles were then thrown at police by the demonstrators, many of whom were wearing masks.
The incident occurred just moments before the Armistice two-minute silence was due to take place to commemorate the end of the First World War.
Tommy Robinson, the former co-leader of the English Defence League, called for his supporters to meet in the capital on mass.
Robinson, also known by his real name, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was among those in the city.
This protest comes at the same time as thousands of others are expected to march in London to call for a ceasefire in Israel’s war against Palestinian group Hamas.
