This would be a brilliant coup
A new England star has been identified as a Newcastle United ‘top target’ according to a new report from The Sun.
The Toon Army have started the season strongly, after last season’s late heartbreak of no European qualification.
Manchester United’s FA Cup victory meant that Eddie Howe’s unfortunately side missed out.
Beating Southampton 1-0, despite having ten players, the club have since kicked on and now sit fifth in the league, having won two and drawn one.
With an already impressive midfield trio consisting of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton, Eddie Howe has now identified yet another midfield target.
And that player is none other than the recent England debutant Angel Gomes.
Current playing at French club Lille, Gomes is out of contract next summer and is reportedly a highly sought-after man.
Lee Carsley handed him his senior England debut in the recent international break and publicly praised the player’s love of football:
“He loves football, he watches football, he’s interested in tactics.
“He knows all the players in any league.
“If you ask him for any feedback, you need to be prepared that he’s going to give you some feedback on the session, or how we’re going to build up, or the positions.
“He’ll often say about some build-ups he’s done with other clubs, or what he’s played against, because he’s obviously playing in France, so he sees different things.”
After an assured performance versus Finland, Gomes was also the subject of praise from ex-Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who stated the player was “constantly on the move” and also mentioned “his touch”.
