EgyptAir hijacker’s estranged wife responds as he appears in court

Unsurprisingly, she's not too impressed...

Let’s be clear (as if we needed to be) – when it comes to winning back the heart of an old flame, hijacking a plane is definitely not the best of ideas.

According to police, lovesick Seif Eldin Mustafa was so desperate to see his estranged wife and children that he used fake explosives to force a plane from Cairo to Cyprus.

Thankfully, the siege came to an end without anyone coming to any harm, and Mustafa was arrested.

Facing a Cypriot court on Wednesday, it’s now clear that his wife is far from impressed with the stunt.

According to the Daily Mail, speaking through an interpreter, she claimed: “I’m so embarrassed by all the publicity and I don’t want to see him.”

Prosecutor Andreas Lambrianou said Mustafa had also told police: “What’s someone supposed to do when he hasn’t seen his wife and children in 24 years and the Egyptian government won’t let him?”

As dramatic as a hijack situation can be, it seems not everyone on board the plane was overly concerned. Notably this man – who decided to grab a truly unique selfie with Mustafa…

We really wouldn’t recommend asking for a selfie if you ever find yourself in such a situation.
