Drivers face £5,000 fine for chauffeuring pets in unusual law

‘£5,000 for that?’

Drivers could see themselves face to face with a £5,000 fine for doing something many of them do every day.

An insurance company has revealed that if you have your pet beside you in a car, you could be hit with a huge fine.

If your pet happens to want to feel the cool breeze as you’re smoothing down the highway, you’ve got to say no, as InsureTheBox state your pet must be harnessed or kept in a pet carrier when driving, if you want to avoid a big fine or a nine point deduction.

The insurance company has also warned about another wealth of things that can get you in trouble with the law such as using your phone to pay at a drive-thru.

They explain: “Using your phone when behind the wheel is illegal in all cases, unless your engine is off and the handbrake is on” – so it’s best to use a bank card at all times.”

A dirty license plate can also land you a £1,000 fine due to the “importance of showing your registration number correctly.”

Honking in an “aggresive” manner without “reasonable intent” can also get you a £1,000 fine. You can also be given the same fine for “warning other drivers of speed traps”.

And in case you didn’t know, splashing pedestrians by driving fast into a big ol’ puddle can also get you a three point deduction and a £100 fine rising up to £1,000 if you’re taken to court.
