A Dexter kill room built inside an Airbnb, where Benjamin Day murdered Maria Saceanu, a court heard, before he admitted the killing this week.
Benjamin Day has admitted to murdering the 24-year-old woman in a room he built to kill her, modelled on the Showtime drama Dexter.
The 20-year-old forensic science student switched his plea to guilty partway through his trial.
It happened on day two at Wolverhampton Crown Court, the BBC reported.
He was 19 when he killed Maria Saceanu after luring her to an Airbnb, with prosecutors saying he had prepared what they called a "kill room" inside the flat.
Plastic sheeting lined the walls and everything ready to carry out a killing, with the whole setup ready for clearing away the evidence afterwards.
The case has unsettled a nation familiar with Dexter, the US drama about a serial killer with his own code.
Day, who lived in Redditch, had planned a different defence.
He was going to claim the room was for a TikTok tribute video, and that Saceanu's death was self-defence.
However, that defence never reached the jury, as Day returned to the dock after an hour-long delay.
He changed his plea there, appearing to smirk as he did it.
Day was remanded in custody once he entered his plea. He is due to be sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 4 December.
