ASOS hacked: customers scramble to delete card details

ASOS hacked scare has UK shoppers worried

ASOS hacked claims have spread after customers received a threatening push notification referencing a compromised Snowflake database, sparking a rush to delete payment details.

The notification, titled "ASOS HACKED", appeared on customers' phones through the retailer's app.

It read: "Dear Asos DPO and IT, we have fully compromised the Snowflake instance. Engage with us, or we will leak it."

The message was followed with a link to a Telegram chat.

ASOS has not yet confirmed whether the claim is genuine as the Mirror says it has contacted the retailer for comment.

However, customers are not waiting to find out before acting.

What a Snowflake breach would mean for ASOS data

ASOS holds the card details and addresses of millions of UK shoppers, so any suggestion of a breach triggers an immediate scramble.

Within hours of the notification landing, customers were posting screenshots and warning each other on X.

"ASOS has been hacked. Haven't used that website in years... immediately went to delete my payment information oh my god," one user wrote.

Another posted: "Delete ur card details from the asos app NOOOWWWWWW."

Snowflake is a cloud database platform that major retailers use to store customer records.

A genuine compromise of that kind of system can expose names, order histories and payment data at scale, which explains why shoppers reacted before ASOS said anything at all.

What should ASOS customers do now?

  • Remove saved card details from the ASOS app and website.
  • Check bank statements for unfamiliar transactions.
  • Avoid the Telegram link in the notification - nobody has verified where it leads.
