The magician has denied the accusations made against him

Popular American illusionist and magician David Blaine has denied sexual assault allegations that have been made against him.

The NYPD revealed on Monday that an investigation was underway, following reports in a number of American news outlets.

A representative for Blaine, Jill Fritzo, has since responded to the allegations in a statement.

According to Daily Beast, Fritzo said: “David denies the accusations that have been reported and he takes these allegations seriously. He intends to cooperate with any investigation.”

Two women have reportedly given statements to the NYPD, although it is possible that one of them may fall outside the statute of limitations.

Blaine has not yet been approached by police.

The 45-year-old magician is due to tour the UK and Ireland in June, and no update has been offered on the performances as of yet.

Blaine rose to popularity in 1999 when he remained suspended 30 feet in the air in a glass box for more than 40 days in London.

Since then, he has done a number of other public stunts, including “burying himself alive”, and appearing to levitate in public.
