Cristiano Ronaldo drops fresh retirement hint

People have been questioning his future since the Euros

In an interview with Portuguese outlet NOW, Ronaldo dropped a hint that he is not planning on retiring anytime soon despite his contract with the club expiring at the end of this season.

The 39-year-old’s future has been a hot topic of debate since he announced that this summer’s Euros would be his last.

He didn’t rule out playing for his country in the World Cup in 2026.

He told the media outlet: “I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years... but probably I will retire here at Al Nassr.

“I'm very happy at this club, I feel good in this country too. I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue.”

Ronaldo joined the Saudi side in January 2023 for a deal reportedly worth £175 million per-year after he departed Manchester United for a second time under somewhat of a cloud.

Unhappy with manager Erik ten Hag and the perceived lack of development at the Manchester club, Ronaldo took part in a scathing interview criticising his employers who in turn terminated his contract in November 2022.

He has scored 61 goals for Al-Nassr in 67 appearances, providing 16 assists and has won one trophy, narrowly missing out on two more during his time with the club.

He has been a mainstay of Portugal’s squad since his debut in 2003 but failed to score in five games at Euro 2024 where he came under heavy criticism.

Ronaldo revealed: “When I leave the national team, I won't tell anyone in advance.

“It will be a very spontaneous decision on my part, but also a very well thought-out one.”

He also gave his thoughts on a potential career after hanging up his boots confirming: “At the moment, I'm not thinking about being a coach of the first-team or any team.

“It doesn't even cross my mind, I've never thought about it. I don't see my future going through that.”

According to reports, Ronaldo has expressed an interest in extending his contract with the Saudi side until 2027.
