Chris Evans apologises for Top Gear stunt filmed near Cenotaph

New Top Gear presenter Chris Evans has apologised after scenes for the revamped show’s new series were filmed near the Cenotaph in central London.

Evans’ co-host Matt LeBlanc was seen driving around Westminster on Sunday and was pictured near the Whitehall memorial.

The stunt was seen by many as being disrespectful and Evans issued an apology on his Monday morning radio show.

“I would like to apologise unreservedly,” he said, explaining that nobody associated with the new show had deliberately intended to cause offence.

On Sunday, a spokesman for Top Gear had said that the images, taken by paparazzi, had made it look like the filming had taken place nearer to the memorial than they actually had.

“The filming took place a respectful distance away from the Cenotaph and it was all agreed with Westminster council in advance.”
