Builders renovating a bungalow in Biggin Hill, south-east London, have uncovered bones in the garden that the Metropolitan Police have confirmed are human, with the property sealed off for seven days while officers try to establish how they came to be there.
Officers were called to a home on Aperfield Road at about 3.30pm last Friday, the force said, after builders digging in the garden made the find and stopped work immediately.
The Independent reported that the discovery was made during renovation work on a bungalow that had recently changed hands.
"The bones were sent for specialist examination and were confirmed to be human. However, further testing is underway to establish the age of the bones and ascertain identity."

The house has been cordoned off ever since, first with police tape, now with temporary fencing and forensic tents, with officers coming and going through the night, the Mirror reported. Neighbours said the two-bedroom bungalow had been bought by a woman who had not yet moved in. “
An old lady lived there for years, but she moved away, and another woman bought it to completely refurbish it,” one told the Sun. “The builders discovered something on Friday, and of course, they completely had to stop work.”
In a separate and unrelated case earlier this year, a man was jailed for keeping his mother’s body in a freezer while collecting £78,000 of her benefits.
The Metropolitan Police said its investigation remains ongoing to establish the full circumstances. No arrests have been announced, and officers have not indicated how long the bones may have been in the garden or whether any offence has been committed.
