Footballer jailed over 191mph clips and points scam

The 32-year-old centre forward plays for Nostell Miners Welfare in the Northern Counties East League.

He was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court and banned from driving for four years and seven months, The Independent reports.

Charlton, from Hunslet in Leeds, admitted 10 counts of dangerous driving and four offences of perverting the course of justice.

The Crown Prosecution Service said he was also involved in a scam in which other drivers took penalty points for his speeding offences in return for cash.

After the case, the CPS released footage of Charlton's driving.

In one clip, his powerful BMW can be seen drifting at a roundabout, tyres screeching, as he narrowly avoids crashing into a van.

In another, a passenger filmed him hitting 191mph on a motorway in West Yorkshire, according to Metro's report of the case.

Charlton will be well into his thirties before he can legally drive again, and Nostell Miners Welfare will be without their centre forward for the foreseeable future.
