BBC presenter Lauren Laverne has revealed she has been undergoing treatment following a cancer diagnosis.
The 46-year-old has been a regular on BBC radio and television for many years, and currently presents the iconic Radio 4 show Desert Island Discs.
In a post on Instagram on Wednesday morning, the star shared a picture of herself from hospital and revealed she had "recently had a cancer diagnosis."
Thankfully, she is expected to make a "full recovery" because the cancer was caught early.
Laverne wrote: Right then, some personal news… I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery.
She went on to thank the "medical teams" for their "incredible skill and kindness", and her family and friends who she said had been "extraordinary every step of the way."
Laverne also thanked her colleagues at BBC 6 Music, Desert Island Discs and the One Show, which she regularly presents.
She encouraged her 252,000 Instagram followers to not put off tests or appointments, and to "get yourself checked out."
"Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything," she added.
Laverne, who was the lead singer of alternative rock band Kenickie before becoming a presenter, ended her post by saying: "It's usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore."
