As we have seen over the course of recent months, the BBC have some weird priorities.
For every time they get it right, like this glorious bit of TV on Pointless or the airtime given to Eric Monkman, there are moments like this bizarre display of over-remembrance and the time one Apprentice contestant may or may not have completely fucked it.
But never has a BBC presenter been involved in a piece of FAKE NEWS™ as terrifying as this.
During a Radio 4 spot this morning, Nick Robinson committed the unforgivable sin of claiming Santa Claus isn’t real, and was rightly called out on his lies.
@bbcnickrobinson was serious journo but mistake this am that Santa is not real undermines credibility. Who do you think brings the presents?

Just heard some #fakenews from @bbcnickrobinson on #r4today about Father Christmas. Just to clarify..Father Christmas is REAL!

@bbcnickrobinson is officially the Grinch who said that Father Christmas doesn't exist, before kids set off for school. @BBCr4today

@bbcnickrobinson thanks for letting my six year old know that Father Christmas doesn't actually exist! #thearchers #todayprogramme

Mistakes happen, though, and Robinson – the seasoned pro that he is – was quick to set the record straight.
The only question concerns whether he left it too late.
An apology – Father Christmas confirms that he is real. All suggestions to the contrary are fake news @BBCr4today

It feels like he got away with it, though.
You had me worried there.
Almost wasn’t going to write to him this year.

Phew , glad you have made that clear! I almost believed that it was real news
— Sabina Ahmed (@sabaone) February 16, 2017
Well thank goodness for that. I suspected it all along!
